Plugin Issues

Troubleshoot issues with the FastRender plugin installation and operation.


Plugin not appearing in Rhino

If FastRender doesn't appear after installation:

Check PlugInManager

  1. Type PlugInManager in the Rhino command line
  2. Look for "FastRender" in the list
  3. If found, ensure the Enabled checkbox is checked
  4. Restart Rhino

Filter plugins

In PlugInManager, click on Plugins that do not ship with Rhino to find third-party plugins like FastRender.

Verify installation location

Check if files exist in:

%APPDATA%\McNeel\Rhinoceros\8.0\Plug-ins\FastRender

If the folder doesn't exist, the plugin may not have installed correctly. Try reinstalling.


Plugin loads but commands don't work

Restart Rhino

Some plugins require a full restart after installation. Close all Rhino instances and reopen.

Check for conflicts

Other plugins may conflict with FastRender:

  1. Open PlugInManager
  2. Temporarily disable other third-party plugins
  3. Restart Rhino
  4. Test if FastRender works
  5. Re-enable plugins one by one to identify conflicts

"Unable to load plugin" error

Unblock the file

Windows may block downloaded files:

  1. Navigate to the plugin folder:

%APPDATA%\McNeel\Rhinoceros\8.0\Plug-ins\FastRender

  1. Right-click on .rhp files
  2. Select Properties
  3. Check Unblock at the bottom
  4. Click Apply
  5. Restart Rhino

Update Rhino

Ensure you have the latest Rhino 8 updates:

  1. Go to HelpCheck for Updates
  2. Install any available updates
  3. Restart Rhino

.NET Framework issues

FastRender requires .NET Core (Rhino 8 default). If you've changed Rhino's .NET settings:

  1. Go to ToolsOptionsAdvanced
  2. Search for "NetCore"
  3. Ensure .NET Core is enabled (default setting)

Plugin panel won't open

Access via menu

Try opening through the menu:

  1. Go to Panels in the menu bar
  2. Look for FastRender in the list
  3. Click to toggle the panel on

Reset panel position

The panel may be off-screen:

  1. Type FastRenderShow in the command line
  2. Or go to WindowReset Panel Layout

Plugin crashes Rhino

Collect crash information

  1. Note any error messages that appear
  2. Check HelpSystem Information for your Rhino version
  3. Contact support with this information

Safe mode

Try running Rhino in safe mode:

  1. Hold Shift while starting Rhino
  2. This loads with minimal plugins
  3. Manually load FastRender from PlugInManager
  4. Check if it works in isolation

Reinstalling the plugin

Complete uninstall

  1. Open PlugInManager
  2. Find FastRender and note the registry key location (double-click for details)
  3. Delete the plugin folder:

%APPDATA%\McNeel\Rhinoceros\8.0\Plug-ins\FastRender

  1. Restart Rhino
  2. Reinstall using Package Manager or Direct Download

    • Screenshot of any error messages
    • Steps to reproduce the issue
